An arrow quiver

I got started with basketry after going to live in the countryside for the first time..

living in the middle of a wood, I could see twigs and climbers all around. Some of them- with much trial and error- became my first baskets.

Having got started with rough and ready hedgerow twigs, I found weaving with cultivated willow relatively easy. After attending a couple of day courses and buying some books, I tinkered away, having fun with my new craft. It took some time to become skilled, but gradually I was able to start selling work, taking commissions and teaching classes.

People respond to willow baskets, sculptures and decorative crafts because they all share a feeling of simplicity and naturalness. As you follow the path of a twig through a basket, you can see how it's made - you can feel the hand of its creator.
